IRVING, Texas – NFL owners decided not to vote Tuesday at the NFL Spring Meeting on extending the new overtime rule changes to the regular season.
The new rules, which could allow both teams possession in overtime, will apply to the postseason only. At the NFL Annual Meeting in March, owners voted to change the overtime rules for the playoffs beginning with the upcoming season, and there had been momentum to apply those changes to the regular season. But that momentum waned at these meetings.
Owners could re-visit the issue after the season, two league officials said.
